Why is There No King of England?

King George Vi died in 1952. Elizabeth became head of the state upon her father’s death. She was third in line at her birth, her father’s brother, Prince Edward, abdicated his rights to the throne in order to marry. Her father then became King and she, heiress presumptive. The royal line must remain, the King may take a queen, but the Queen takes a prince. Her heir must be born of the bloodline. Currently Prince Charles is the next in the line of succession.
