Why is New Orleans Sinking?

New Orleans is sinking because the majority of the area is built on grounds that was once swampland and sinkholes. The people built a levee in order to drain the water out of this area. Typically, swampland will generally settle and it takes 10-20 years for this to finish. The point here, is that the majority of the city as well as the city’s homes were built too quickly, in other words, before the land had a chance to properly dry. Although this is the case, it is not the entire city that is sinking, only portions of it.
