Why does my Dog Lick So Much?

Believe it or not, dogs often lick themselves out of a nervous habit, similar to when people bite their fingernails. Sometimes this incessant licking is prompted by conditions such as moving to a new home, being confined too long, boredom, or even the addition of a new pet or family member. Sometimes, offering the confused canine a chew toy or initiating play time can divert the dog’s desire to lick.
