Why do Students Give Teachers Apples?

There are a couple of different theories as to why students give apples to teachers. One theory is that an apple is representative of knowledge, as in the fruit of the tree of knowledge in the story of Adam & Eve in the Old Testament. The other theory is that since apple starts with A, it’s a representation of the grade that the student wants from the teacher. I feel for all of the students who bring in chocolate chip cookies.
