Why do People Celebrate Hanukkah?

In about 165 B.C.E a Greek-Syrian ruler took over Judea and tried to force them to conform to Greek culture. They took over the Jewish Temple and would not allow the Jews to worship. After three years of fighting the Jew won control of the temple back. They rededicated the temple to God and started the Hanukkah holiday. Hanukkah means dedication.
