Why do Muscles Get Sore?

Remember the last time you spent all day raking leaves from the yard and when you finally stopped your arms, shoulders, legs, and back were achy and sore? We make our muscles sore when we over extend their current capacity meaning we have stretched our muscles past their current length. This extended stretching causes tiny tears in our muscle tissues which causes minor swelling and pain. The swelling and pain usually goes away after a couple of days when the muscles have had time to repair the torn tissue.
