There are many stated causes for the War of 1812, which was a war between the U.S. and British Empire which lasted from 1812 to 1815. One stated cause for the war was a series of trade restrictions placed by Britain to interfere with American trade with France, with whom Britain was at war. Another stated cause was the forced recruitment of U.S. citizens into Britain’s Navy. A third cause was the British military’s support for American Indians by offering armed resistance to the American’s attempt to expand the frontier to the Northwest. One unstated yet powerful motivation for the U.S. to declare war was its desire to display a national honor in light of perceived British insults.
