Who was Wilma Rudolph?

Born June 23, 1940 in Clarvksille, Tennessee, Wilma Rudolph was the 20th of 22 children. She was disgnosed with polio at an early age and had many hospital visits at Meharry Hopital (a black hosital) and extensive therapy before she could walk again without crutches at age 12. She played basketball taking her team to the state championship; then she was a track star attending her first Olympic Games in 1956 and in 1960 in Rome, she won 3 gold medals in the Olympics – the 100 meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter relay team. She was the most celebrated African American woman of all time. Wilma has a fascinating history that we all should take advantage of. For more information see here:
