Who was Ida Tarbell?

Ida M. Tarbell was an American author, teacher and journalist. Her most famous work is a book called The History of the Standard Oil Company. When Ida first began the book, she was worried the reading public might find the subject boring. Little did she know that 55 years after her death the book would be listed as number 5 in 1999 on the New York Times list of the top 100 most notable works of journalism in the 20th century.
