Zheng He (1375-1433) was a Chinese explorer who worked originally under the Ming government. In addition to exporting and importing goods around the areas of East Africa, India, Arabia, Indonesia and Thailand, he also worked to rid Chinese waters of pirates, and did so successfully according to historical reports. Apparently he was a fairly impressive guy, scaring armies with his own, and worked hard to show foreigners just how strong the Chinese could really be. Fun facts: there is a tomb for him in China despite the fact he was buried at sea. Also, he was a eunuch from the age of eleven.
