Drinking tea during pregnancy proves be to somewhat controversial. Non-herbal tea is made with tea leaves and contains caffeine, even the decaffeinated tea still has a small bit of caffine present. Because we know that caffeine can cross the placenta and that our babies cannot process caffeine like an adult it is recommended that most pregnant women stir clear of caffeine. When it comes to herbal tea the question there lies in the lack of regulation by the FDA concerning what is in herbal tea. For that reason it is probably best to take on the thought pattern that if there is any doubt just don’t do it.
