Where is Copper Found?

Copper is found in many parts of the world. The greatest known deposit of copper is in porphyries formed by volcanic activity in Chile’s Andan Mountains. Copper is named for the island of Cyprus, where the Russians obtained their supply. It comes from copper ore, but native copper is also found in distorted cubic crystal chunks. Keeweenaw Peninsula near Lake Superior in Michigan is one of the most likely places to find Native Copper!
