Where does Plutonium Come from?

The rare transuranic and radioactive chemical element, plutonium, is referred to as Element 94. It was first synthesized in the year 1940 at the University of California Berkeley. Scientists Glenn T. Seaborg and Edwin McMillan created the element by bombarding uranium-238 with deuterons. The new element was named for Pluto. Since then trace amounts of plutonium have been discovered occurring naturally. Some plutonium has also been discovered in the environment likely from the fallout of above the ground nuclear testing and spills. For more information, look here:
