Mexicans are now a result of, the country being named Mexico in 1810. Prior to Spanish colonization in modern day Mexico, it was a land of many Indian tribes. They did not speak Spanish until Spain started settling there. There are still some people in Mexico that speak their native tongue and not Spanish. Some of these native tribes are Olmec, Toltec, Teotihuacan, Mayas and Aztecs. Modern day Mexico is now mostly a blending of Spanish and Indian tribes. Although there are still people that affiliate with their tribe, or with Spain, exclusively.
