When was the Thermometer Invented?

The type of thermometers we use today, Mercury Thermometers, were first invented in 1714 by Gabriel Fahrenheit. The thermometer was a great invention because it allowed us to accurately measure heat. Today we use thermometers to measure oven temperatures, temperatures of foods we cook, body temperatures and more. For all of these tasks having a thermometer is crucial, because otherwise how would we know when our food is done, or if we have a fever?
