When Did Confucianism Start?

Confucianism is an ethical and philosophical system that could be considered the state religion of some East Asian countries today. It was developed from the teachings Confucius, a Chinese philosopher who lived from 551-479 BC. The sort-of-religion was greatly altered during the 17th century by faulty translations perhaps by the Jesuits. It is difficult, according to some, to know what Confucius meant to imply in some of his writings.
