We’d like to think that life in 1950’s America was all bobby socks and soda shops. Part of the reason this image perpetuates is that the American economy was on the rise. Keep in mind, the past two decades had brought Americans the Great Depression and WWII. Despite issues in the Suez, the onset of the Cold War, developing situations in Africa, and the Korean War, the 1950’s represent an era of abundance for Americans. Home building and industry were booming, rock and roll music was blaring on the radios and all those WWII future baby boomers were kicking off their shoes at sock hops.
