If you start with the four basic food groups you can then variate them with the tastes and desires of the diners. For children you can always please them with spaghetti and meat balls and that will account for the meat and carbohydrates. Add a salad and you’ve got the greens. For a more sophisticated crowd the same plan can be used, just serve steak and baked potatoes and tossed salad. I could go on and on but you get the idea.
