What Makes Glow Sticks Glow?

Glow Sticks glow because of two chemicals and a dye in a glass vial within the glow stick. To activate the stick you must break it. Inside a glass vial within the stick is a mixture of dye, diphenyl oxalate and hydrogen peroxide. Mixing these two chemicals causes a reaction that releases energy that activates the dye.
