What It Takes to Become a Lawyer?

It takes a lot of dedication, motivation and perserverance to become a lawyer. You first have to take the LSAT, which is a prerequisite to get into law school, along with graduating from college. You must attend law school and graduate with a Juris Doctorate, or J.D., degree. You must then take and pass the State’s Professional Responsibility exam as well as the State Bar Exam in the state in which you intend to practice law. You must also be sworn in by a public notary in order to be allowed to actually appear in court and/or sign your name on legal documents.
