Wild rice is in the grass family and dates back to prehistoric times. Wild rice is an aquatic plant and is raised mainly in the Great Lakes region (Minnesota and Wisconsin). The seeds of the rice plant are what is harvested. Wild rice is very popular for health food enthusiasts and can be served in place of rice or potatoes.
