What is the Purpose of the United Nations?

The purpose of the United Nations is to bring all the worlds nations together to work for peace and development based on the principles of justice, human dignity, and well being of everyone. The United Nations was formed October 24 1945, and had 51 member states. Today there are 192 members of the United Nations and they meet in the General Assembly, which is similar to a world government, their headquarters are in New York City, but the land and buildings are considered international territory.
