What is Surround Sound?

Surround Sound provides a ‘real life experience’ when watching TV. Imagine watching a plane take off, and at the same time hearing it fly over you. Most stereo systems use two speakers, left and right: whereas a surround sound system has ‘5.1’ speakers. In addition to the front left and right speakers, surround sound adds a center speaker for speech, two rear speakers, and a sub woofer (the .1) in order to provide realistic bass.
