What is Regrouping in Math?

Regrouping is math is what people who grew up before the early 1980s used to call borrowing. It is when you have a multiple digit number say, 290, and you subtract 198 from it. Looking at the one’s column, you cannot take 8 away from nothing so you have to borrow one 10 from the number on the left side of the 8 (in the 10s column). That would make the problem 10-8.
