What is Proposition 209?

Proposition 209 was on the California ballot in 1996. The proposal effectively eliminated affirmative action and leveled the playing field for all. Prior to this, there were benefits and programs to encourage the employment of minorities. California stated that doing so reversed the preferential treatment and if we were to all be equal there would be no preference either way. Now it is against California law to consider sex, race or ethnic heritage when hiring anyone, no matter what their background.You can find more information here:
