What is Proclamation of 1763?

The Proclamation of 1763 was issued by King George III following the French and Indian War (Seven Years’ War) after Great Britain acquired French territory in North Territory in North America. The proclamation’s purpose was to effectuate the organization of Great Britain’s newly acquired North American empire, as well as to stabilize relations with Native Americans. The way this was accomplished was through the regulation of trade, settlement and purchases of land on the western frontier.
