What is Polyphony?

Polyphony is a musical technique where more than one melody is played or sung at the same time. The most common would be a round or a cannon which most of us learned about in elementary music class. ‘Row, row, row your boat’. A great deal of baroque music is qualified as polyphonic. Bach’s music required played many chords to be played simultaneously. All of these are examples of a use of this technique.
