What is Pernod?

Pernod is a brand of absinthe, named after the distiller Henri-Louis Pernod. Absinthe in its original hallucinogenic form was banned in the United States since 1912, and several countries in Europe by 1915, causing the distillery to close and rework the recipe without using as much anise.
