Paronychia is an infection that usually occurs between a nail, and the nail bed. There are two types of Paronychia, one is acute, and one is chronic. A chronic Paronychia condition is otherwise known as nail fungus. Thumb suckers, or people that dip their hands in water a lot, are susceptible to chronic Paronychia. Acute Paronychia is an infection that happens on the fingers, like an infected ingrown nail.
