What is Multiple Personalities?

Dissociative Identity Disorder is what used to be called Multiple Personality Disorder. It occurs when a person is subjected to extensive trauma & abuse prior to the age of 8. It is a brilliant and sensible way for the brain to make sure that the individual survives to adulthood despite a horrible, inescapable situation. Most people with Dissociative Identity Disorder are able to function in jobs, have families and do not act anything like what is portrayed in the media.
