LCM is also known as the Least Common Multiple. The LCM is used when adding fractions with unlike denominators. If you’re adding 3/4 + 1/3, you need to find a common denominator, this can be done by listing the multiples for 4 and 3. 3: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36. 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, next find all the common multiples and find the smallest one. In the case of 4 and 3 the LCM is 12.
