What is Lactic Acid Build Up?

Lactic acid build up is created when our muscles need more oxygen than our body can provide. Glucose is used through a process called glycolysis where it is broken down into pyruvate. When using our muscles to lift heavy weights or perform at a prolonged time there can be a shortage of needed oxygen so the pyruvate is converted into lactate which allows the muscles to continue for about one to three minutes creating a build up of lactic acid.
