What is Jena 6?

Jena 6 refers to the beating of a white student during a fight by 6 African American boys at Jena High School in Louisiana. The incident happened in December 2006, and was prompted by a noose being hung from a tree and the subsequent fight and beating. The six students were arrested for attempted murder, and it was felt that the punishment did not fit the crime committed. For more information see here:
