What is Ins?

The acronym INS stands for Immigration and Naturalization Service. The INS ceased to exist as of March 2003. It is now called U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is responsible for USCIS. All legal immigrants go through ISCIS. It issues green cards to permanent residents who are not U.S. citizens. It is also responsible for naturalization of non-U.S. born immigrants who want to become citizens of the U.S. For more information see here:
