What is Hashimoto Disease?

My grandmother suffered from Hashimoto disease, and subsequently several members of the family have issues with their thyroids.Basically, this condition affects your thyroid (part of your body that produces hormones) and is not easily diagnosised because the symptoms are widespread and vary from person to person. What happens is (for a currently unknown reason) your immune system will attack your thyroid gland, often causing it to become underactive. Although Hashimoto’s does not directly cause death, complicatons include, goiter, heart disease, mental health issues, and birth defects for some infants of a pregnant mother with the disease.
