What is Hanukkah?

Hanukkah is a Jewish Festival of Lights. It is a celebration of the re dedication of the Jews to the God of Israel after coming out of captivity. Historically it was begun after the Maccabees initiated a rebellion against Antiochus IV Epiphanes. Afterward the Temple was cleansed and the re-lit menorah miraculously burned for eight days even though it only had wick enough for one.
