What is Convergent Evolution?

Convergent evolution is a term used to describe when different species that aren’t closely related evolve with similar traits as they try to adapt to similar conditions. Huh? It is best to understand this one with examples. Scientists have found that both fish in the anarctic and fish in the arctic both developed similar traits which help them to adapt to the icy water. These traits function differently in the fish in one polar region than it does in the other, but both serve the same purpose.
