What is Chest Congestion?

Chest congestion is mucus that develops in the upper or lower respiratory tract as a result of viruses, bacteria or outside environmental factors like allergens or smoke. To treat drink plenty of fluids and take an expectorant to help loosen the congestion. See a doctor if chest congestion is accompanied by fever, or if it lasts more than a few days or worsens. Steamy showers and humidifiers may help loosen the mucus as well.
