The other way to spell Hanukkah is Chanukah. Hanukka is the celebration of the festival of lights which lasts for eight days and nights. Each night a candle is lit and placed in the menorah. The festival of lights celebrates the rededication of the temple of Jeruselem where there was only enough oil to keep the eternal flame burning for one day but it burned for eight days. This was exactly the amount of time it took to press more oil for the flame.
