Everyone has an aorta, the main vessel that carries blood through the body, that runs from the heart down through the abdomen. An aortic aneurysm, or abdominal aneurysm, is when the aorta develops a bulging area. It’s like a garden hose that has a section which has developed a thinning of the walls and a weak spot. The weak spot is measured and when it hits a certain number, they can go in and put a stent in to decrease the pressure on the weakened portion of the wall. If by chance the thin and weakening section pops, a person can die if medical attention is not sought immediately.
