What is AD Hoc Analysis?

An ad hoc analysis is an additional type of hypothesis that is tacked on to the results of an otherwise scientific experiment to try to reconcile evidence that is contradictory to the original hypothesis. This is antithetical to the scientific method, which insists that if a hypothesis is rejected by the data, it is false, and the research itself needs to be revamped before the hypothesis can be tested again.
