What is a Wan?

A WAN is contrasted to smaller local area networks (LANs) and metropolitan area networks (MANs). WAN stands for Wide Area Network. The WAN Network is a system that extends for greater distances and is used to connect LANs (local area networks) together. With a WAN in place, employees at the LANs in any of your offices, regardless of how geographically distant they may be, can freely exchange files and data with each other as if they were physically connected to one network.
