What is a Vowel Pair?

A vowel pair is two vowels (a,e,i,o,u, and sometimes y) that are pronounced together as one long vowel. For example, the word ‘tail’ has the vowels ‘a’ and ‘i’ and they are pronounced together as one long sound. The ‘a’ is dominant in the sound because it is first, so the sound would be of the long ‘a’ sound, which sounds like the letter ‘a’.
