What is a Tort?

The word tort is used to describe a legal situation where a person’s property, reputation is damaged or the action of one person results in injury to another and the person who suffered the damage is entitled to compensation. A tort does not cover a breach of contract or trust. In the case of a tort a civil case would be brought against the person who caused the damage. It does not matter whether the damaage was intentional or not the person damaged is still entitled to compensation.
