What is a Kibbutz?

A kibbutz is a community that can be found in rural parts of Israel. It is a Hebrew word for “communal settlement.” Community members of kibbutz live mutually with one another, addressing the needs of another in terms of social justice, education, and consumption. It is open for those individuals who choose to be part of this kind of community. These communities were established in 1909 by young Jews who wanted to create a new way of life.
