What is a Hydascan?

A HIDA scan, sometimes referred to as a hydascan, is a test used to take a look at the gall bladder and its ducts. HIDA refers to Hydroxy IminoDiacetic Acid which is the radioactive substance that is injected during the test. A HIDA scan is usually recommended when a physician suspects there might be a blockage in the gall bladder or its ducts.
