What is a Exponent?

We deal with exponents when we have powers. A power is a number say 3 raised to another number 5. We write this as 3^5, where 3 is the base and 5 is the exponent. The exponent tells us how many times a base is a factor when we have to evaluate an expression. Here, we evaluate the expression by writing 3x3x3x3x3 to get 243.
