What is a Condenser Mic?

The term condenser microphone is a little obsolete now. The condenser in condenser microphone means capacitor–capacitors store bursts of energy, or electrons. The capacitor is between two thin plates that serve as a diaphragm that vibrates when sound waves hit it. Because these mics have capacitors, there must be an external energy source such as a battery pack or something called Phantom Power, which is just a method of giving microphones and other like equipment Direct Current power, or DC.
