What is a Cell Made of?

A cell has three major parts: the membrane, the cytoplasm and the nucleus. The cell membrane surrounds the cell and sort of ‘holds it together.’ The cytoplasm is a dynamic part of the cell where most of the cell’s actions place. The nucleus is the brain center and is the repository of genetic material or DNA. Think of an egg which has been cracked open in a frying pan and you have a rough image of what a cell looks like.
