What Happened to the Donner Party?

The Donner Party is a term used to describe one of the most famous tragedies of the west. Members of the Donner Party were trying to migrate toward the west in hopes of a better life. The travels ended tragically for many in the party because they were unable to cross the Sierra Nevada before winter came. The coming of winter caused the party members to lose not only the comfortable conditions they had been traveling in, but also caused them to lose their food supply, thus causing many members to starve to death.
